Sumba is a place where strange things happen.

Instead of curing illnesses with plain old medicine, black magic seems to do the trick. Deceased people are stored in the attic until there’s enough money raised to organize a proper funeral. Babies are not allowed to touch the ground before they’re 6 months old (as they are believed to be angels). More than once did I have my eyes wide open when listening to their stories.

Although their thinking was a bit bizarre for a Finn, we had great time and loved the place. It’s definitely on our top 3 most amazing places.

As so many mornings before, Hannu woke up before 6 a.m. and paddled out to the sea.
